Just Say No. Going Without is a Good Thing.

My husband doesn’t seem to understand the concept of being able to “admire but not acquire.” I remembered this yesterday when we saw a snazzy Range Rover driving by.

(Okay, this “cars are magnificent beings” thing he has going on? I can’t grasp that concept. Just sayin.)

So anyway I was wondering… is that “I must own everything I like!!! NAAOOO!!!” mindset a guy thing? Or is it just him? Does it happen with women too? Because I see it around a lot… especially when Apple comes out with new gadgets.

Dude. Chillax. It’ll still be there a couple of months from now. What’s the bloody rush?

I don’t get it.

If I had to have everything I admired, I’d be miserable! And I’d probably make everyone else miserable too. Because I admire so many things!

That’s just cray.

While I think there’s merit in having an “Admire and ASPIRE” mentality (i.e. seeing something you want and setting a goal to work towards being able to have it), I’m not a big believer in always having everything you want.

Because it never ends! Once you acquire something, you’ll just start wanting something else.. and then another thing… and another… and so on.

And in the process, you forget to appreciate what you already have.

Going without — even just for a while — is a good thing. It builds character, inspires creativity, and instills a sense of appreciation for the things you had to wait and/or work for.

So parents — don’t feel guilty about saying “NO” once in a while. And kids? Stop whining. You’ll thank your parents later.

Trust me. I’m thankful for mine - and their many NO’s - every day.

Have a great day, everyone!
